A November review...

First of all I would just like to say I am sorry that I haven't been updating my blog in the last 4 weeks. Things were pretty crazy and to be honest I just wasn't in the mood to write much. But I owe you all an update so here goes ;)

I am a Front Desk Agent

I have advanced degrees in Accounting, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Swahili. I can also read minds. Of course I have the reservation that you booked six years ago even though you don't have the confirmation number and you think it was made under a name that starts with "S".

Snow!

I woke up yesterday to the first snow of the year. But it all melted during the day and in the afternoon it was so warm we walked around in t-shirts....

Visiting Walmart - The real America

My roommates moved out on wednesday and so there was not much left in the apartment (and especially in the kitchen) when they were gone. I was off on thursday so I took the opportunity to go to Walmart in Eagle-Vail. To get there you have to take a bus which only runs every hour and costs $3. But at least there IS a bus, which I hear isn't very common in most parts of the USA ;)

Anyway, I bought pans, cooking stuff, a spice rack, stuff for the bathroom, a cellphone.... And when I got out of there my bank account was a mere $150 poorer. Only when I was trying to pack all the stuff up I realized that I couldn't fit everything into my backpack. So out I went to the bus stop carrying a heavy backpack and 5 plastic bags. When I got to the bus stop I realized that I had just missed the bus so I had to wait almost an hour for the next one. And since I got bored just sitting there, I took a little picture of the parking lot at Walmart:

Isn't it beautiful? ;) Anyway, hopefully next time I will have some more exciting things to tell. Thanks for reading my babbling ;)

Quesadillas, Dirndls & Golf

I had thursday and friday off and so my original plan was to go up the mountains and hike a little. However, I ended up not doing it. Instead Verena and I had two very relaxing days which we spent mostly wandering through Vail, drinking Starbucks coffee and going shopping. Well, not really shopping, because I don't have any money yet, but rather looking at stuff i'd love to have... So if anyone has a spare pair of skis or a snowboard - send it my way! ;)

On friday night Verena, Max and I went to a restaurant in Edwards, where I had the best Quesadillas of my life! (It probably helped that all the kitchen staff were Mexican).

Right now there is the Oktoberfest in Lionshead (the village right next to Vail). However, we decided to wait until next week when it's in Vail and we'll show up in Dirndls (my roommate has some). I will keep you updated on this because for now I really can't imagine myself wearing a Dirndl. But we'll see....

On monday I will be having the morning shift so I will be able to take advantage of some free golf lessons at the Sonnenalp Golf Club in Edwards in the afternoon. I am really excited, I've never played golf before!

Toronto Tales - Part 1

Teil 1: Unser Viertel

Wir wohnen im maltesischen Viertel. Allerdings klingt das wahrscheinlich toller, als es ist. Das einzig maltesische hier sind, glaube ich, die alten Männer, die den ganzen Tag im Park und vor dem Waschsalon sitzen. Was sie ausgerechnet dort zu suchen haben, bleibt dabei aber im Verborgenen. Sie scheinen nie irgendwas zu machen. Nicht mal trinken tun sie. Oder Schach spielen. Oder Domino. Oder Bücher lesen. Oder was alte Männer sonst so tun. Sie sitzen einfach nur rum und reden ganz komisch ;)

So einige Neuigkeiten...

Aaaalso,

ich habe diese Woche bei der Zentralstelle für Arbeitsvermittlung wegen des Kanada Visums angerufen. Die nette Dame am Telefon klang sehr zuversichtlich und meinte, dass ich das Visum wohl in zwei bis drei Wochen bekommen werde.

Vorgestern war ich mit Pauli beim Konzert von Controller Controller und Be your own pet. Die erste Band war ganz gut, aber die zweite - hiiilfe. Kreischender High School Punk ganz ohne Tiefgang. Aber ein gutes hatte der Abend: wir sind (mal wieder) den Beatsteaks begegnet. Hier ein "wunderschoenes" Foto von Arnim und mir:

Heute mal ein paar Sachen, die uns aufgefallen sind:

1) Für die Bierliebhaber unter euch:

Die beste einheimische Biermarke (Imperial) gibt es in 1 Liter Flaschen zu kaufen. Wem Dosen lieber sind, der kaufe die zu 374ml Kosten: 0,50 - 0,90 US$.
Die Brauerei befindet sich uebrigens nur 5km von meinem Haus entfernt!

Auch zu empfehlen sind das Pilsen und Bavaria, schmecken aber nicht ganz so gut wie das Imperial und sind nicht ganz so weit verbreitet.

Importierte Biere sind viel teurer und schmecken auch nicht wirklich nach Bier (z.B. Budweiser Light, Rock Ice, Coors)
